FIREBIRD Cancel Spanish Shows
September 4, 2002Britain's FIREBIRD, led by former CARCASS/NAPALM DEATH guitarist Bill Steer, have cancelled three Spanish shows that were originally scheduled to take place this weekend. According to an official statement from the group, "the reason for this cancellation is that the band were given the above confirmed dates less than three weeks ago. This meant that it became extremely difficult to find a way to travel out to Spain and play the gigs without losing money, as the cheap air tickets had already been taken. Added to this was the fact that both [bassist] Roger [Nilsson, THE QUILL/SPIRITUAL BEGGARS] and [drummer] George [Atlagic, THE QUILL] already had commitments immediately before and after the shows, which narrowed down the options even further. Ultimately they couldn't find any way to do this without losing a lot of money, and that's something the band cannot sustain. There is presently no label for FIREBIRD in Europe [following a split with Music For Nations Records—ed.], and therefore no source of tour support, which makes a situation like this one even harder. Sincere apologies from FIREBIRD to all concerned, particularly everyone that hoped to see us in Spain. Next time it'll work out."
The affected dates are as follows:
Sep. 05 – Valencia, SPA
Sep. 06 – Cadiz, SPA @ Serie Z Festival
Sep. 08 – Bergara, SPA
